Breweries in Munich
Paulaner Munich am Nockherberg
Some people call the Oktoberfest the “fifth season" of the year, others term it the Starkbier (strong ale) season. In early or mid March, when the Starkbier season begins, the Nockherberg invites guests to Salvator beer tasting sessions and the yearly “Derblecken” political satire show.
Bavarian cabaret artists make fun of current and former politicians and parody them with reference to current political events.
Paulaner am Nockherberg is also worth a visit out of Starkbier season.
Throughout the year, the brewery serves the best beer and Bavarian delicacies.
In the summer you will find, in addition to the inn, a beer garden from which you can enjoy a nice view of the Mariahilfplatz and the Mariahilf Church.
Augustiner beer garden
First chronicled as a beer storage site in 1812, the Augustiner Keller, a cellar and beer garden, attracts residents of Munich and non-residents alike every summer.
In the large beer garden on Arnulfstrasse, which can accommodate up to 5,000 people, the beer is still drawn from original wooden barrels.
The Augustiner is also open for business in winter. Munich beer can still be enjoyed at the Augustiner Keller.
Bavarian delicacies are served in the beer garden under 100-year-old chestnut trees, or patrons can bring snacks with them to enjoy a piece of Bavaria in the heart of the city over a cold “Mass” (Bavarian for a litre of beer)!
Hofbrauhaus Munich - "There's a beer hall in Munich….."
Built in 1589, the Hofbrauhaus Munich is one of Munich’s tourist magnets.
The venue “Am Platzl” (literally: little square) conjures up an Oktoberfest atmosphere.
There are waitresses sporting traditional dirndl dresses, long wooden tables with benches, brass bands, Bavarian delicacies, and naturally, Munich beer.
Towards the end of the evening, patrons sway about and dance on the benches as at the Oktoberfest.
